Graduate SchoolsABOUT WASEDA UNIVERSITY&GUIDE TO THE CAMPUS In 1882, Mr. Shigenobu Okuma, one of the leading political figures of the Meiji Era, founded the Tokyo College for Technical Studies with the aim of upholding the independence of learning, promoting the practical utilization of knowledge, and creating good citizenship. In 1902, this institution became Waseda University. Waseda celebrated the 125th anniversary of its foundation in October 2007. It currently consists of 13 undergraduate schools, 20 graduate schools, and various affiliated research institutes. With nearly 3,000 full-time faculty members and about 50,000 students, Waseda University is one of the most prestigious private universities in Japan. Its high standard of education and research, along with the achievements of its graduates, has garnered respect both in and out of Japan. The promotion of international exchange in education is also a part of Waseda’s rich traditions, and many international students are accepted every year.
