Undergraduate StudentsSTUDY GUIDE Since each of the undergraduate and graduate schools of the university has their own philosophy and aims of education, methods of study may vary by school. The following concerns only general matters common to students in all faculties. Further details are available on the syllabi for each school. If you have any concerns, please consult your school office. Courses are separated into categories by each undergraduate school. Such categories may be named by undergraduate programs under differing conventions. Generally, these categories consist of: general education, foreign languages, and specialized subjects. Students must take such subjects and complete all required credits in order to graduate. Required credits for graduation differ by program. For details regarding courses, please refer to syllabi, course guidelines, and course registration guidebooks. If you have any questions, please consult your undergraduate school office. Students are required to complete the registration for classes on the designated dates in order to enroll in a course. The school notifies students of the dates and methods. If you would like to enroll in Japanese language classes organized by the Center for Japanese language, please check with your affiliated school office about the dates and how to register. As a general rule, students must be enrolled in a four-year bachelor’s degree program in order to obtain a bachelor’s degree. Enrollment in a bachelor’s degree program is limited to a maximum of eight years; however, temporary leaves of absence and time spent studying abroad (excluding study abroad treated as being enrolled at Waseda) will not be counted towards the eight-year enrollment limit. Term-end examinations for the Spring and Fall Semesters are held in late July or in late January to February respectively. Year-end examinations are held in late January to early February. Grades are usually given for half-year or year credits in early September or early-March depending on classes. Grades are marked as: A+ (100–90 points), A (89–80 points), B (79–70 29▍
