While collaboration in various forms between Honjo City and Waseda University has been a tradition from the past, this opening marked a new endeavor in which a local public entity and a private university jointly operate a museum, further enhancing Waseda’s cultural and community cooperation activities. In the Honjo City Galleries, visitors will learn about the history and culture of Honjo through a wide variety of archaeological materials such as Haniwa, as well as through a chronology and other informative material. The Waseda University Gallery regularly holds exhibitions to present valuable cultural properties maintained by the university (such as Waseda’s collection of Japanese, Egyptian, and Oceanian folk art) along with the latest related research.|URL| Hours: 9:00 - 16:30 Closed: Mondays (or the following day if Monday is a national holiday), Admission: Free The Waseda International House of Literature (The Haruki Murakami Library) is a cultural exchange facility and a literary resource center located on the Waseda Campus. As referred to as “The Haruki Murakami Library”, it holds a collection of valuable materials deposited or donated by Haruki Murakami, a graduate of the University, including articles of interviews, book reviews, and first edition books of Murakami, as well as a vast number of books of Murakami’s works widely translated abroad (more than 50 languages), records and CDs collected by Murakami himself. On-site facilities include research collection stacks, gallery lounge, audio room, exhibition room, cafe operated by students.
